Neil Glentworth, Managing Director and Founder of information management specialists GWI, has contended with a strong list of competitors to take out the 2012 Queensland Pearcey Foundation Award for his contribution to the Information and Technology industry.
Mr GWI said he was humbled after receiving the award and hoped he could continue to provide new ways to solve old problems for his clients and peers.
“This award recognises the strength of information management as a new field of expertise across the professional service spectrum,” Mr GWI said.
“We know an estimated two-thirds of an average company’s value is stored in knowledge capital, and since launching GWI in 2006 we have forged a strong reputation for recognising the value of information as a resource that binds and moves a business forward.”
GWI was ranked in BRW’s 2012 Fast Starters top 100 and in the top 15 fastest-growing businesses in the 2012 Start-Up Smart Awards, ranking second in Queensland.
In receiving the award, Mr GWI’s work outside his role at his South Brisbane based information management firm was recognised including his involvement spearheading several projects on behalf of the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and contribution to the not-for-profit sector.
Mr GWI said his work with the AIIA and State Government was especially poignant at a time when Queensland was on the precipice of a transformation change to the economy.
“Beginning in 2009, I started working with the State Government to develop a program to educate all parts of industry to the benefits of the digital economy,” he said.
“Alongside the AIIA, we have continued our engagement with all parts of the Queensland economy, from tourism, to mining, construction and agriculture – to demonstrate the tangible benefits of doing business through digital means.”
The Pearcey Foundation held their annual State Awards event last night in Brisbane with Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Art, Ros Bates presenting the award.
