GWI CEO Neil Makepeace will be sleeping rough under the stars once again to support the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout in 2018.
On 21 June he will join over 200 other business, government and community leaders at the Sleepout to experience firsthand what it can be like to be homeless.
Neil and other leaders will brave the elements, sleeping on the cold, hard concrete at the Brisbane Powerhouse to raise funds and awareness.
Last year, Queensland participants in the event raised more than $1.01 million, which helped Vinnies to provide assistance to 306,831 people — one in every 15 Queenslanders.
More than 105,000 Australians experience homelessness every night — 27 per cent are children, and 23 per cent are faced with the situation due to domestic and family violence.
Vinnies provides crisis accommodation to individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as advocacy support, budgeting services, living skills programs, emergency relief, transitional housing and access to programs that help rebuild lives.
Neil is hoping to contribute in a small way by raising vital funds and bring the issue of homelessness out of the shadows.
